Did you know?

The word "Viguerie" comes from the Latin "vicaria", meaning "representative". In medieval times, a viguerie was a small local jurisdiction administered by a viguier, responsible for local justice on behalf of the count.

This root is found in surnames like Viguier or Vigouroux. In southern France, it left its mark on places like the La Viguerie district in Cassis or the place de la Viguerie in Gaillac. Thus, "Gîte de la Viguerie" evokes the house of the viguier, where he exercised his duties.
